TKA Athletics Vision
The purpose of The King's Academy is to train, prepare and equip young people to take the ministry of Jesus to the ends of the earth and athletics is an integral part of that process . TKA has an outstanding sports program, which offers our students the opportunity to learn the skills of the sport, develop teamwork and exhibit Christian sportsmanship as they play with schools in the area.
There are four basic goals of the TKA Athletic Department:
-
Develop Christ-like character in each athlete. (Galatians 5:22)
-
Be an effective witness of the transforming power of Jesus Christ. (Matthew 5:16)
-
Fully develop the athletic abilities of each athlete. (Colossians 3:17; II Timothy 2:5)
-
Develop and maintain good relationships with other schools and coaches. (I Timothy 3:7)
Regulations
The King's Academy Lions are members of the SCISA Athletic Class AA League.
Physicals
Every student's health and immunization record needs to be current and on file at the school. To participate in any team sport both a SCISA pre-participation health assessment signed by a parent, and a SCISA medical examination form completed and signed by a physician must be turned in before the first practice. Click here for a copy of the SCISA medical exam form.
Sports Divisions
The divisions for all students participating in athletics at TKA are based on participation.
Lower School - Grades 5 and 6
Middle School - Grades 6, 7 and 8
Junior Varsity - Grades 7, 8 and 9
Varsity - Grades 8-12
NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulates many college athletic programs. The NCAA has established rules on eligibility, recruiting, and financial aid. There are three membership divisions within the NCAA - Division I, Division II, and Division III. Institutions are members of one or another division according to the size and scope of their athletic programs and whether they provide athletic scholarships. The King's Academy qualifies for Division III. If you are planning to enroll in college as a freshman and you wish to participate in Division I or Division II athletics, you must be certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. You should plan to start the certification process early, usually the end of your junior year in high school. Contact TKA Guidance Counselor Tina Hicks (thicks@tkaflorence.com ) or call 843-661-7464 for an application.
Athletic Banquets
The King's Academy holds fall, winter, and spring athletic banquets during the school year. The purpose of these banquets is to give coaches the opportunity to recognize the athletic gifts, combined with the spiritual gifts and overall Godly character that the students have shown throughout their respective sports.
Athletes who play B Team or JV sports will receive a certificate of participation. All students who play Varsity sports receive a letter and pin for the sport the first year that he/she is a member of a team. Students receive a bar for additional years on that same team.
Choosing from the following list, coaches give five awards per team:
- Best Offense
- Best Defense
- Leadership Award,
- Most Improved,
- 3-D Award (Desire, Dedication, Determination)
- Coaches Award
(The Coaches Award is given to the student who has demonstrated his/her best in Godly character, athletic ability, and sportsmanship. This award is considered the highest honor an athlete can receive.
Camps
Athletic camps for some sports are frequently offered. Contact Matt Terrio, Athletic Director for more information.
